We welcome school visits to St James Church. To arrange a visit please contact our church office by email or phone: 020 3643 2327.
Two main types of visits have proved popular with schools locally:
1. An Introduction to what we do in church: baptism and Holy Communion is explained and acted out; the children have the chance to handle the Church's Communion Silver; and to learn about other aspects of the church building: including the Organ, the Ascension painting on the East Wall and the lectern and Bibles.
2. Hidden Corners of St James: The children have the opportunity to visit areas of the church not accessible to the public including the Organ Loft, the Main Gallery, the Pauper's Gallery and the crypt. Alternatively, aspects of these two programmes can be combined. The Church staff are happy to engage with these visits and field questions by the children. Further ideas for schools visits can be downloaded from the downloads section of this page.
We are grateful for support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and from the Heritage of London Trust for their contribution to the repair and maintenance of our landmark heritage building.
